Laren Grey Umphlett

"Laren is an exceptional teacher and I don't state that lightly. I am a PhD in Exercise Physiology, train Olympic athletes for the USA Triathlon Federation and have supervised biomechanics and strength training programs for athletes for many years, and on the personal side am a long course multi-sport athlete, therefore my standards are very high the rare times I work with someone. My goals were specific strength building along with flexibility. His use of body weight approach was correct and precise and I started to see the changes within a couple if weeks. The 3 months I worked with Laren put me in the best shape I had been in almost 10 years and would have continued with him had he stayed in Florida. He is professional in his approach and he aptly conveys exactly what he wants from the student. He is by far my favorite teacher."

"Laren is a very challenging personal trainer. I learned a variety of strength moves from him. We started out with very basic moves, where I learned some key techniques in order to have a foundation to build on with my future training sessions. It is amazing how much I thought I knew about doing a squat, but quickly realized that such a simple move is actually very complex.
Most importantly, I learned how to control my breathing and my mental stamina, which has led me to take on many endeavors in all aspects of my life. I highly recommend his training to any person at any fitness level. He is very good at tailoring the workout to your specific needs; you will see results in your body and it will help you improve your overall well-being."

Kasey Moreland

"Training with Laren is an interesting and eye opening experience. I came to him to improve my running, but he never once trained me in any running, but my running improved dramatically through strength and balance training and by increasing my overall physical attributes. He has taught me that there is more to running than running, and more to fitness than fitness. He is a very intense trainer that emphasizes the mind and the body."

Sauteed Beets

Slicing up beets makes the kitchen look like a murder scene, but the only thing I'm killing is those beets! I love them. Sauteed beets with the greens is one of my favorite side dishes. So easy to make. Here is how it goes down:

Ingredients:
Beets
Extra Virgin Olive oil

Step 1: Cut off the stem (save the greens for later)
Step 2: Slice the beets into small cubes.
Step 3: Put beets in a pan with olive oil and water on medium heat. Cover.
Step 4. After cooking the beets for a little while add the beet greens and any spices you prefer.
Step 5. When the beets are soft enough for your liking then take them out and eat them.

It is so easy that I can't even think of any other instructions! Experiment! There is more than one way to cook a beet.

Why are beets red? It's a cancer fighting agent called betacyanin that gives beets their color. The redder the better.

Why are beets so good for you? They have anti-cancerous properties, anti-inflammation compounds such as betaine, antioxidants such as Vitamin A & C, high in fiber, and essential minerals.

The Lost Interview

The Tao of Jeet Kune Do

“I am learning to understand rather than immediately judge or to be judged. I cannot blindly follow the crowd and accept their approach. I will not allow myself to indulge in the usual manipulating game of role creation. Fortunately for me, my self-knowledge has transcended that and I have come to understand that life is best to be lived and not to be conceptualized. I am happy because I am growing daily and I am honestly not knowing where the limit lies. To be certain, every day there can be a revelation or a new discovery. I treasure the memory of the past misfortunes. It has added more to my bank of fortitude.”

Coconut oil Scrambled eggs

Simple. Healthy. Tasty. Fast.

Ingredients:
6 Cage Free Organic Eggs
A little coconut oil

In a pan set on medium low heat, put a tablespoon or more of extra virgin coconut oil.

In a bowl, gently stir the eggs whole, but not too much to the point where the white and yolk mix. You want patches of yellow and white.

Scramble eggs lightly until the eggs are fluffy.

You may add spices.

I would also recommend it with lightly sauteed spinach, sweet potato leaves, or beet greens.

There it is, the simplest, healthiest, and tastiest scrambled eggs ever.

SUPERATHLETE: Fred Flintstone

Sure, he doesn't have the best physique, but let's look beyond his appearance and focus on his athletic ability. This prehistoric man could accelerate a car with his bare feet. But this isn't grandmas Cadillac whale. This thing had stone wheels weighing two tons each! and he often had a dinosaur in the back seat!

Speaking of bare feet. This type of training is getting popular. It is something I have preached about for a long time. So it will be a subject for many future posts. For now, take off your shoes, relax, and stay a while.

Coconut oil, how do I love thee?

Let me count the ways...

1. Used to cook scrambled eggs and in other cooking.
2. In my hair.
3. as a treat.
4. Blended up in my protein drinks.
5. as a skin moisturizer.
6. as a fragrance.
7. As a sunscreen.
8. on cuts.
9. on burns.
10. on sunburn.
11. as a lip balm.
12. as a lubricant.
13. as a spread.

be sure to use extra virgin coconut oil for consumption. I like the Jarrow brand.

Zebra

You and I love zebras. Just like everyone does. So we plan a trip to the wilderness of Africa to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. What an experience it will be!

When we arrive it turns out to be all worthwhile. A breathtaking experience of natures beauty. The stripes of the zebra are unique and inspiring. They are perfect beasts. Muscular and healthy. Alert.

Suddenly, appearing from the brush, lagging slowly behind the herd is a lone zebra. Well, he sort of looks like a zebra, but not like the other zebras. He is slow, unenergetic, unaware, diabetic and obese! Sick. Dying. How can this be? We are in total shock! We can't believe our eyes! Quick! Get help! Call a park ranger or vet. This animal is sick and needs help!

Surely, jeeps arrive with park rangers and doctors and zoologists. They tranquilize the zebra and take him away to get help. If he survives he will spend his days in a care facility. It is sad. How did this animal get this way? How did he survive at all in the wild?

The truth is that he wouldn't have lasted in the wild. That is why zebras do not end up in such a state in the first place. They live in the balance of nature. They remain active and eat zebra food. They KNOW what they are doing.

Yet look at humans. It is not so alarming to see most people in the same state as our hypothetical zebra. No one is concerned. There is not urgency. People just think that is the way they are. They think they have a genetic condition. They are wrong. They are not living in accordance with their nature. They can't accept that poor nutrition, stress, and sedentary lifestyle are causing these maladies. They just assume that this is what they are- sick, sad, and dying. Even obese sick dying humans would be shocked to see a zebra in such a state. So why not start taking a look around? Maybe a look in the mirror. Your body can tell you that you are off track. It is time to start living naturally. The way you were meant to live. As sure as a zebra was meant to live and eat the way a zebra should.

“So you see! There's no end to the things you might know,Depending how far beyond Zebra you go.”
